Hello,

I am new to this service and the idea of "tagging" and would like to have details on using this product.
Are you familiar with other tagging (social bookmarking) services, such as del.icio.us? Did you check out the Wikipedia article on tags?
Right now I am utilizing Site Submission Services and have been asked about "Tag This"?
Hmm... I googled "site submission services" and got a lot of hits - is that a particular company? So, somebody at that company asked you at TagThis? Interesting.
It would be really great if you had a tutorial of some kind for us "newbi's" to look at - I did not see anything like that hear at the site.

I look froward to seeing what's next...
Okay - great suggestion, I'll get to work on that. Briefly, TagThis.Info has two faces; one is a "social networking" side which I've barely developed - you can store (and eventually share) tagged bookmarks. The other side is a content tagging service, to facilitate navigating the pages of your website, and finding related content. If you put a little snippet of javascript on your page, users will be able to add their tags (and you can add your tags) to your content. The javascript also displays links to find other content with that tag.

TagThis.Info has grander plans: I intend to grow it into a distributed and networked application, sharing both the code and the resultant data (the tags). Sites like Del.ico.us are great because they have accumulated so much meta data about content, but unfortunately the terms of use from them prohibit using that data in other ways. I intend to change all that.

Does that answer your questions?

Best Regards,
Aerik
At this stage I don't expect the search facility to be

and "railways" for example. Depluralisation is not too
difficult to do in English (and Google seems to do it).
Thanks for this. I am currently relying on MySQL's fulltext search, and so the function is really not very sophisticated. At some future time I will probably look into migrating to a more sophisticated search, but for the time being I'm trying to nail down the basic functionality. I may code for some obvious things though (depluralisation is a good one).
I notice also that some people seem to enter tags as a
list of comma separated phrases, others simply a list
of words. Is there any mileage in recognising such phrases?
[You'll see exactly the same thing if you look at the meta
tags on any HTML page.]
Well, frankly yes - one of the differentiating ideas of this implementation is the phrases. Instead of forcing users to concatenate some words together to to what they're trying to describe, I let them use phrases. I'm sure this approach will need to evolve quite a bit, but I think it's absolutely necessary. Also, the search function searches for matching full phrases, and secondarily for matching words, so it should provide items with similar tags.
And finally there's the well-known questions of synonymy
and polysemy. ["philately" vs "stamp collecting" and
"sporting swordplay" vs "field boundaries" vs "disposal
of stolen goods" (all are "fencing")]
Yeah, I'm sure I'm not going to solve that one before the big guys :-)

Thanks!

I've got a lot of features to implement, actually. I'd say this service is at the "pre-alpha" level, only slightly more complete than a proof-of-concept...

But, to help me prioritize development, thanks for the feedback!

A good search facility should do better, full stemming
would be useful. Recognition of possible spelling
